About us

Noh is one of Japan’s oldest performing arts, combining poetry, music, dance, masks, and costumes.

What makes noh so unique? How can we appreciate a performance? What is the meaning of movements, masks, and costumes? Understanding the basics of noh will allow you to enjoy its performance, as well as learn about Japanese traditional culture.

We organize activities and performances for visitors as well as residents to enjoy noh, provide information on noh in Kyoto, and also explore how to transmit the traditional art of noh to an international audience through multilingual introductions and hands-on workshops.

一般社団法人Discover Noh in Kyotoは、日本の伝統芸能である能に関する理解を深めて、広く発信することを目的とする団体です。

これまで、公益社団法人能楽協会京都支部のプロジェクトチームとして、能楽を主題に、通訳ガイドや英語学習者に向けた講座、京都在住の外国人に向けたワークショップ、社寺での公演や街歩きツアーを実施しました。さらに、英語表記で、能楽の舞台となる京都の寺社仏閣を案内する「能 MAP」を製作しました。２０２１度より、独立した団体として、国際社会へ能楽を紹介する活動を継続しています。
