The ENTER NOH series in collaboration with the Kyoto Kanze Noh Theater is back this autumn with a new selection of plays. The program includes an English introductory talk before the performance and English subtitles during the performance. For those who want to delve deeper into the tradition, a special backstage tour will be conducted for a limited number of guests. The noh play Funa Benkei, running from last year, is based on the stories of the epic battles of general Minamoto no Yoshitsune (1159−1189) and his mistress Shizuka who was a famed dancer. The noh play Hagoromo, featured for the first time in this series, is a play based on the legend of the “robe of feathers (hagoromo)” and a celestial maiden who descended from the moon. Funa Benkei will be on October 2 and October 21, and Hagoromo will be on October 21 and December 22. Julia Yamane and Diego Pellecchia from Discover Noh in Kyoto will be guiding the backstage tours and presenting the introductory talks.
